With “125th Anniversary of Norton” as its theme, the Best Friend Festival’s week of events begins Saturday with the traditional Kid’s Fishing Day at the Norton Reservoir from 8:30 – 11 a.m.
Sunday brings another day of outdoor activity with the Flag Rock/Reservoir Triathlon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registrants can enter beginner and advanced entry categories.
On Monday through Friday, festival goers can enjoy different themes each day at venues downtown and around the city. Monday, June 10 features Gospel Night at the Wolfe, Williams & Reynolds law offices parking lot at 5th Street starting at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, June 11, the Friends and Farmers Market will be at Farmer’s Market Building on 8th Street from 4 - 6 p.m. The EMS/First Responders Appreciation Event will be at Norton City Park on Virginia Avenue from 6 - 8 p.m. and Music of The Mountains Homecoming at the Country Cabin II starts at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, June 12 means plenty of activities at Norton City Park on Virginia Avenue. Norton’s Largest Sandbox with hidden prizes opens all day. First Bank & Trust will host Picnic in the Park from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. The Paint-a-Trash-Can contest is from 1 –2 p.m., and Outdoor Crafts will be on display from 1 -2 p.m. The Bike Rodeo, for ages 12 & under, starts at 2 p.m., and the day rounds out with the Karaoke/ Talent Show Night, sponsored by -WAXM-FM, starting at 6 p.m.
Thursday, June 13 features Norton Cinema City Kid’s Day at 206 Coeburn Ave., with movies at 10 a.m. and 12 noon. Admission is $1 for children. Senior Citizen’s Day at the Farmer’s Market Building on 8th Street runs from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. The Kiwanis/Lions Club’s Kid’s Night starts at Norton City Park from 5 -9 p.m. The Crankin’ With Crutchfield Car Show and Teen Dance, ages 13-19, will be at the Municipal Parking Lot on Park Avenue from 8 -11 p.m.
Friday, June 14 sees the Slip & Slide Water Activities at Norton Elementary School from 1 -3 p.m. Get Ready to Dance, Twirl and Tumble starts at 6 p.m. at the downtown Main Stage. The Friday Night Family Fun Night Concert at Main Stage from 6-11 p.m. features Railway Express at 8 p.m. and Blast From The Past at 9:30 p.m. The Friday Night Kid’s Place will also be at downtown Norton from 7 -11 p.m.
Saturday, June 15 wraps up the Best Friend Festival starting with the Annual Norton Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast at 7th Street from 7 - 11 a.m. The Norton Citywide Yard Sale runs from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. Flea Market Vendors will be at the Municipal Parking Lot on Park Avenue starting at 7 a.m.
The Ballad Health Rehab 5K & 8K Run on Saturday starts at 7 p.m., with registration starting at 6 p.m. at the NCH Healthplex. Up on the mountain, the High Knob Music Festival at the High Knob Recreation Area Lake runs from 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
