Kingsport (29-31) now trails Bristol, which whitewashed Bluefield 10-0, by a game and a half for the West Division’s second playoff berth.
The Mets were limited to three hits by four Danville pitchers, including Lisandro Santos (1-1) through the first five innings. Santos, who yielded two hits, walked three batters but compensated by striking out seven.
Greg Leban worked a pair of innings before Deyvis Julian and Kenny Wells recorded three outs apiece. Leban racked up four Ks, Wells struck out the side in the ninth inning, and the Braves retired the Mets 15 times by way of strikeout.
Willie Carter went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Danville (25-35), which got a hit, three runs, two walks and an RBI from Charles Reyes.
Kingsport’s Cole Kleszcz doubled in a 1-for-3 showing.
The Mets used a half-dozen pitchers, resulting in a loss for starter Jordany Ventura (0-1). Allowing just one run over four innings, Ventura tallied five strikeouts.
The Mets open a two-game series at Greeneville on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
