Prep roundup: Releford pours in 35 points to lead Dobyns-Bennett past Jefferson County

DANDRIDGE — Abiah Releford poured in 35 points as the Indians romped to the 86-51 win over Jefferson County in an early District 1-AAA versus District 2-AAA showdown on Friday.

Zane Whitson finished with a dozen, while Malachi Hale and Jack Browder chimed in with 11 points each.

Tommy Griffin was the only Patriot in double figures with 13 points. Braxton Chaney and Jacob Thompson each scored eight points.

John Battle 52, Sullivan North 50

BRISTOL, Va. — Reed Samuel scored 20 points and Zane Smith added 16 as the Trojans scored a dramatic win over the Golden Raiders.

Bryson Vance led a balanced North attack with nine points. Jacob Cross and Christian Hill each ended with eight.

University High 69, KACHEA 67

JOHNSON CITY — With Mason Broome, Kaleb Meredith, Matthew Carter and Marshall Fleenor each scoring in double figures, the Buccaneers edged a good KACHEA team in a back-and-forth affair at Brooks Gym.

Broome was high man with 18 while Meredith was close behind, netting 17. Carter tossed in 11 and Fleenor 10.

Broome and Ander Blowers grabbed six rebounds apiece and Meredith tallied four steals.

For the Wildcats, it was James Reese producing 18 points and eight rebounds and Will Joyner pairing 14 points and seven boards. Jacob Reese had 13 points while Landon Fuller went 4-of-5 from 3-point territory for a 12-point showing.

David Crockett 60, Cherokee 52

ROGERSVILLE — Getting 15 points from Mack Hensley and 12 more out of Donta Hackler 12, the Pioneers opened their Big Seven Conference schedule on a good note.

Mason Britton totaled 10 points and Prince Kollie nine in the victory.

Cloudland 57, Providence Academy 54

Elijah Blair poured in 21 points and Hunter Shell 17 as the Highlanders got past stubborn Providence Academy.

Chris Miller was tops for the Knights with 14 points. Caleb Zepeda added 11.

CHARLOTTE, NC. — Elijah Blair scored 21 points to power Cloudland to a nail-biting win over Providence on the road in a nondistrict match-up. Hunter Shell added 17 points.

Chris Miller dropped 14 points, and Caleb Zepeda scored 11 points for Providence.


Sullivan South 32, Johnson County 26

KINGSPORT — The Lady Rebels surrendered only five first-half points, then fought off Johnson County after intermission.

Alex Harris accounted for exactly half (16) of Sullivan South’s points, converting five 3-pointers. She scored 12 of those in guiding her team to a 19-5 halftime advantage, then the Lady Longhorns got back in the game with a 12-2 third quarter.

Sadie Stout had 10 points (8 in second half) and Taylor Cox nine to pace JCHS.

Jefferson County 50, Dobyns-Bennett 35

DANDRIDGE — Alexa Gramann compiled 15 points and Cayla Smith came through with 14 to lead the Lady Patriots over the Lady Indians.

Jabrea Johnson scored 10 points and Megan Ayers netted nine to lead Dobyns-Bennett.

Cloudland 54, Providence Academy 19

Jasmine Birchfield pitched in 12 points and the Lady Highlanders held Providence to single digits in all four quarters.

Mandy Benfield and Kaylen Fields each collected seven points for Cloudland. Mary McAllister had seven points for the Lady Knights.

Twin Springs 65, Council 33

NICKELSVILLE — Erin Larkin scored 23 points as Twin Springs pummeled Council at home in a nondistrict clash. Emaleigh Powers drained four three-pointers as she scored 14 points.

Brooke Tiller led Council in scoring with 19 points, and Lakota Helton added 13 points.

Unicoi 55, Happy Valley 53

ELIZABETHTON — Tenley Holt scored 22 points to help Unicoi escape Happy Valley on the road in a Three Rivers Conference battle. Abigail Rush helped out with 10 points, and Caroline Podvin added nine points.

Emily Lunceford dropped 23 points for the Lady Warriors.

Thursday games

Sullivan East 48, Lebanon 41

WISE — Jenna Hare dropped 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double to power the Lady Patriots to a victory over Lebanon in the Powell Valley National Bank Tip-Off Classic at UVA Wise. Emma Aubrey lived behind the arc, knocking down four shots from three-point land. Ashley Nunley cleaned the boards all night, grabbing 15 rebounds.

Averie Price scored 15 points, and Kara Long pitched in with 12 points for the Lady Pioneers.

Patrick Henry 69, Lee High 35

WISE — Breanna Yarber put an on offensive show, scoring 27 points to lift Patrick Henry to a win over Lee High. Payton Monahan netted 20 points, and Kacee Deskins aided with 11 points.

Ally Bowen led the Lady Generals in scoring with 16 points.

Union 59, Honaker 56

WISE — Jayda Smith had a double-double for Union, with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Emili Brooks scored 18 points, and had seven rebounds as the Lady Bears defeated the Lady Tigers.

Halle Hilton scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers. Kiley Vance had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Lara McClanahan added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Wise Central 56, East Ridge (Ky.) 44

WISE — Callie Mullins earned a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds to power the Lady Warriors to a double-digit victory. Hannah Carter scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Jillian Sturgill totaled 10 points.

Sarah Tackett scored 15 points, and Kyra Looney netted 10 points for East Ridge.
