Gate City, Central, East claim E&H Showcase wins

EMORY — The Gate City girls basketball team fought off Honaker 49-45 on Saturday in the Emory & Henry Showcase.

Sarah Thompson showed the way for the Lady Blue Devils with a 15-point effort in a game that remained tight throughout. Gate City led by one point, 22-21, when the teams went into the locker room at halftime.

WISE CENTRAL 38, TENNESSEE HIGH 25

EMORY — Hannah Carter piled up 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to lead the Lady Warriors to the victory in the Emory & Henry Showcase.

Baylee Collins chipped in nine points for Central, and Riley Fritts had eight to lead the Lady Vikings

SULLIVAN EAST 69, GRAHAM 18

EMORY, Va. — Victory was never in doubt for the Lady Patriots, who got 17 points from Emma Aubrey and 15 from Jenna Hare in Emory & Henry Showcase action.

Aubrey sank five of her team’s six 3-pointers.

Shayla Short tossed in 10 points for Graham, which trailed 48-8 at halftime.

BOYS

CHARLOTTE, (FLA.) 66, GATE CITY 59

LEMON BAY, Fla. — Tre Carroll scored 27 points to lead Florida’s Charlotte past the Blue Devils in Lemon Bay. Tyrik Gainer added 18 points and John Gamble chipped in with 14 in the win.

Bradley Dean blazed in 37 points to lead Gate City, which takes on Port Charlotte (Fla.) on Saturday.

PULASKI COUNTY 83, SULLIVAN EAST 70

DUBLIN — Dylan Bartley fired up 37 points, but the Patriots couldn’t quite keep pace in the Lake Cumberland Christmas Hoops Classic game.

Bartley drained six of the 14 3-pointers made by the Patriots, who took a 38-36 lead into the second half. Teammate Braden Standbridge nailed a trio of treys in an 11-point showing.

K.J. Combs had 29 points, Zach Travis 16 and Colton Frayling 11 for Pulaski County.
