Davis-led Lady Vols ease past Georgia 73-56

KNOXVILLE — Rennia Davis scored 17 points and had six rebounds to lead the No. 23 Tennessee women’s basketball team to a 73-56 win over Georgia on Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Jordan Horston added 14 points to go with seven assists, Tamari Key scored 13 points and Lou Brown added 12 for the Lady Vols (13-3, 3-1 Southeastern Conference).

Tennessee outscored led 35-29 at the half after shooting 54%, and the Lady Vols iced the win with a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter in which they went 5-for-5 from the field.

Georgia was up by one, 20-19, after one quarter but didn’t come close to scoring that many points the rest of the way. The Bulldogs (10-7, 1-3) went 4-for-21 from 3-point range and shot 39%. They made just 3 of 17 attempts in the second quarter in suffering their third straight loss.

Maya Caldwell led Georgia with 13 points. Gabby Connally had 11 and Que Morrison added. 10.

Brown had 10 points in the second half on 4-of-6 shooting with two 3-pointers. Tennessee finished 8-for-12 behind the arc and shot 52% overall.

The Lady Vols outrebounded the Bulldogs 35-29, led by Jazmine Massengill’s seven boards. UT freshman Tamari Key blocked four shots, moving her season total to 41.

The Lady Vols hit the road to Gainesville, Florida, for an SEC matchup with Florida. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
