KINGSPORT — Two dogs spent nearly an hour on the roof of a Center Street house Monday afternoon after tearing through a screen in a second story window.

The precarious situation took place at 1334 E. Center St. around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Employees with PETWORKS – Kingsport Animal Services arrived about an hour later, made their way into the house and rescued the dogs.

A third, smaller dog was also rescued from the house. It could be partially seen through the second story window but was apparently too small to make its way out onto the roof.

The two dogs that made it on the roof were agitated nearly the whole time, pacing back and forth and at times seemed ready to jump to the ground.

Neighbor Angel Bailey called the authorities about the dogs and stood in the front yard until PETWORKS employees arrived. She said no one had lived in the house for at least a year but said a man did leave the house on foot Monday morning.

Bailey said she had no idea who the man was.

After the dogs were rescued, Bailey said the PETWORKS employees found a camp inside the house, indicating someone was living in the home. The employees posted a notice on the front door of the house, indicating PETWORKS was in possession of the dogs.
