Kingsport woman killed attempting to cross Stone Drive

KINGSPORT — A 50-year-old Kingsport woman was fatally struck by a Honda Accord late Sunday night as she was attempting to cross West Stone Drive in a motorized mobility chair.

According to the Kingsport Police Department, the collision took place shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday on West Stone Drive near Fairmont Avenue.

Police say Paula Collier was operating a motorized mobility chair that she had borrowed from an acquaintance and was attempting to cross Stone Drive in a north to south direction.

At that time, Collier traveled into the path of a white, four-door Honda Accord driven by a 17-year-old girl from Mount Carmel.

Police report Collier was killed in the crash; the driver of the Honda was not injured.

The accident is being investigated by the Kingsport Police Department’s Traffic Unit and no further information has been released.
