WISE, VA - Denver L. Bowen, 84, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Norton Community Hospital, surrounded by family.

Denver was born in Scott County, VA to the late Ernest and Emmer Miller Bowen.

He was a retired coal miner. Denver enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Denver was preceded in death by his sister, Nannie Hash; and brother, Ezra Bowen.

Denver is survived by his wife, Betty Bowen; children, Kathy Bolling and husband Norris of Newberry, SC, Mildred Balthis and husband Lewis of Wise, VA, Donna Carter and husband Phil of Jonesville, VA, Chris “Buster” Bowen and wife Tammy of Manassas, VA, Trish Shelton and husband Brad of Kingsport, TN, Sheila Davis and husband Marty of Big Stone Gap, VA and Samantha Smith and husband Joe of Pennington Gap, VA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Bowen of Duffield, VA; sisters, Lula Hammock of Duffield, VA, Rosaella Calton of Wise, VA and Phyllis Bowen of Duffield, VA; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Denver L. Bowen will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Rev. Lonnie Townsend officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2019 in the Beverly Cemetery in Wise, VA. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
