Wilma Jean Shanks "Maw"

SURGOINSVILLE - Wilma Jean Shanks "Maw", age 92, of Surgoinsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 13, 2019, from Signature Health Care of Rogersville, TN.

She was a member of Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was born on April 27, 1927, to the late Charlie and Bonnie Trent Buttry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shanks; brother, Homer Buttry.

She enjoyed cooking, farming, and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Joan Smith and husband Wayne, and Judy Starnes and husband Joe; grandchildren, Larry Smith and wife Lue, Amanda Hurd and husband Jason, Jessica Barrett and husband Ricky, and Rachel Isaacs and husband Fielding; six great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Gross, and Barbara Manis; and uncle, Stokley Trent, Jr. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday June 15, 2019, in Highland Cemetery, with Rev. Greg Graybeal officiating. Special music will be provided by Two Sisters and One Brother.
