Born in Kingsport, TN, he was the son of the late Hugh and Edythe (Elliott) Smith. He was also preceded by his brother, Gilbert Smith.
Elliott was a loving and devoted husband and father, who loved spending time with his family, never missing a school or college event for Heather and Kevin.
In addition, he was an original member of the Big Blue Boosters Club. He was an avid Blue Devils fan. He loved all the kids, never missing their games, and worked tirelessly to raise funds for their programs.
He retired from Fairway Ford, and a member of the Virginia Army National Guard for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis (Hensley) Smith, Gate City, VA; daughter, Heather Smith; son, Kevin Smith and wife, Kristen; sister, Ottalee Smith Winegar and husband, Grady; sister-in-law, Vicki Smith; along with several loving nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Grady Winegar officiating. Kristen Whitt Smith will provide the music.
Chris Fugate, Scotty Vermillion, Nick Colobro, Jack Manis, Jeremy Houseright, Gary Collier, Mark Spivey, and B.K. Addington will serve as honorary pallbearers.
