A good-sized crowd, some watching from inside parked vehicles, lined both side of "The Great Stage Road" on Saturday to watch the Blountville Ruritan Independence Day Parade. Entrants in this year's parade included everything from tractors and antique automobiles to comic book characters and Renaissance Fair enthusiasts. There were also plenty of elected officials and political candidates. Plenty of candy was tossed, sending children dashing around the edges of the roadway to see who could snatch up the most. Judging from crowd applause, however, the stars of the parade were the entries honoring military members and veterans, and local law enforcement and emergency first responders.
